Roero Arneis DOCG: the Memory of the Land
Arneis is a native white grape grown in the Roero area since the 15th century. It was rediscovered in the 1970s, thanks to the dedication and foresight of some producers who believed in its potential.
Today, Roero Arneis DOCG is one of the most appreciated Piedmontese white wines, symbolizing the region’s ability to innovate while staying true to its roots. It can only be produced in the 19 municipalities in the province of Cuneo, located on the left bank of the Tanaro River.
In recent years, this wine has gained increasing attention among international connoisseurs thanks to its pleasant drinkability.
Characteristics of Roero Arneis DOCG
Roero Arneis DOCG stands out for its bright straw yellow color, which may shift toward greenish hues in fresher versions, or golden tones in wines made with skin contact or short oak aging, as in the Riserva version.
On the nose, it reveals a refined and varied bouquet with notes of white flowers, linden, broom, green apple, sage, tomato leaf and aromatic herbs. Light mineral notes reflect the sandy, marine-origin soils where it is grown.
On the palate, it is dry, fresh and elegant, with a vibrant acidity that enhances its structure and versatility. The finish is harmonious, with a characteristic bitter almond aftertaste that strengthens its identity.
While not an aromatic wine, it surprises with its aromatic richness, expressing the personality of a white wine that offers both enjoyment and complexity.
Recommended pairings
Roero Arneis DOCG is perfect for pairing with cured meats as an aperitif. It also pairs well with delicate appetizers, white meats and fresh cheeses.
The denomination includes two noteworthy variants: the Spumante version, ideal for pairing with finger food and light fried dishes thanks to its vibrancy, and the Riserva, which requires a minimum aging of 16 months and offers a more structured interpretation of the grape.
